Google to the resuce! :)
I punched in "OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet" (with the quotes), and the first
page to be brought up
(http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-25259.html) seems to
discuss the problem and how to fix it....
Looks like you need to re-install the gnome-applets.
