10 to 15 minutes should be fine if they sit idle for long periods (ie.
they are not spinning up 2 or 3 times an hour all day).  I also only use
Seagate and Western Digital drives these days, that firmware bug is
solidly in the past now and if you are the .01% of the population it is
still easily fixed.

I also dislike all the options that you have to figure out to get
smartctl to work properly with Samsung drives.
