I don't use XBMC linux, but it looks like you can use a Wiimote!
I use a Logitech Harmony 550 remote for my Myth box which uses a
Hauppauge WinTV PVR 350 (which came with a remote and IR receiver.)
The remote that came with the Hauppauge card worked well, but the
Harmony remote was a lot less responsive, despite spending two hours
tweaking the remote's parameters. Also, I think the Harmony remotes
are Windows-only for configuration, but I could be mistaken. They are
a "learning" remote, but that only helps if you're trying to replace a
remote already...
Anyway, I'd look into the Wiimote, or a small portable keyboard and/or
mouse if you don't have an easily accessible infra-red port, but your
mileage may vary.
