LaTeX? The image needs to be in an eps but netpbm should provide an image
conversion program. This might be a little too much unix jalopy for you
though since the easiest solution would be to write a program the write
the LaTeX source, put the image in the same directory the calls pdflatex
on that file. or iv you want PS latex then dvips.
Of course any other format that you can write easily with python would also
work, e.g. troff, docbook, or HTML. It is just that LaTeX is the one that I know with enough power to do the formating I am suspected that you will need. I do not know troff or docbook. (docbook --- that sgml application that O'Riely uses to format some of its books.
