[clug-talk] really messed up my Ubuntu

Can't really make it any worse then it is now. Unless you have some
data on the drives you are trying to save/retain. Did you backup your
data prior to starting?
I have never had any luck upgrading. It has always failed for me and
I've stopped trying. I always reinstall now. I'm guessing upgrades
work for some people or else it would not be a option.
The below sudo command below does not change anything just displays your
drive partitions/setup. no damage is done by this command if used with
the -l switch. I would suggest you run this command. It may give you a
hint as to what is wrong.
Here is an example:
sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda
Disk /dev/sda: 72.9 GB, 72999763968 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 8875 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 262 2104483+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 263 2873 20972857+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda3 2874 4962 16779892+ 82 Linux swap /
Solaris
in this example:
sda1 holds your initial boot image and is set to boot (*) (/boot)
sda2 holds your OS (/, /var,/etc, etc)
sda3 is your swap space.
look to see how different your output is.

I would like to try that.
If the install fest is on this weekend I would like someone to kinda
"hold my hand" though. I am needing a bit of reassurance with this.

Can you boot into the live CD portion and view the disk from
there. What about blowing the partition away using the live CD tools
(fdisk, gui partition tool, etc)
IE:
sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda

Ok, I really messed up my computer.
I have a Asus EEE 1000 and I installed easy peasy ubuntu 8.10.
Then for some stupid reason I tired updating to Ubuntu 9.04. Things
crashed really badly.
Now I am trying to do a reinstall from my USB (that has Ubuntu
8.10) but, when I reach the partioning screen neither of the partitions
show up. It says that "No Root File has been Defined. Please correct
from the partitioning menu."
But when I try to go to the Partition Editor, it will not open.
Can anyone help me or suggest how I can fix this?
