Yet another option for old machines which have broken CD drives and don't have USB aware BIOSes is the PLoP bootmanager. http://www.plop.at/en/bootmanager.html Boot from floppy and then select USB boot (from portable drive). Despite Hell and High Water we'll still install Linux on your machine. ;-) Simon.
