Good morning all.
I got as far as installing my power producer cd just as I would on a
windows system. Went through all the screens and all went in as it should (
under wine 1.0 ) I have the icon on my desktop... I click it and nothing.
Now keep in mind that it is a video program like you where saying that might
not work. I have another hard drive where I have ubuntu 7. something on with
virtual box running win 2000. I don't have the power producer installed
there yet because I cant seem to get better than 800x600 res and 16 colors.
I know that the res wont go higher than what im using on the ubuntu screen
but I have a lot higher on the ubuntu than on windows. Am I doing something
wrong?? I like the idea of using wine because I think its less bloaty than
the virtual box but if it doesn't work......who cares.
Now just to entertain your other suggestion on the ubuntustudio, I don't
know anything about this one and hav'nt tried too look at it yet on the net.
Do you think that I can put all my home digital pix and avi files into a
nice dvd with some music or narration in the background and different screen
changes between one pix to the next?? Not sure if its me but the linus
community has done an awesome job on everything but seems a little light on
the video type of stuff. Am I off or are there some great programs that I am
missing?? Maybe im looking in the wrong spot. I will today look into the
ubuntustudio and probably download an iso and possibly load it onto another
hdd. I want so desperately to get off of win-blows but just have this one
hurtle yet to cross.
Dan

How far did you get? Not all applications work under WINE, and many
only partially work (i.e. the installer may start up, but you can't
get past one step or another.)
I've only installed one application under WINE, firefox 3. Here are
the steps I took:
http://marc.info/?l=freebsd-hackers&m=121433652224339&w=2
Summary:
# wine "Firefox Setup 3.0.exe"
I just used the defaults during the installation. When I run the
application, I use:
# wine "C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/firefox.exe"
