The /etc/X11/xorg is pretty empty (Ubuntu 8.04).  I am also not sure
where xrandr leaves it mark either.  I was making changes via the KDE
control centre, which now that I actually think about it, probably just
a front end to xrandr?  I guess I have fallen a little too out of touch
with the latest developments.
