I feel your pain Curtis… It’s pretty hard to get used to a new OS when there’s no Internet access. Especially since almost ALL of the answers to your questions are ‘on the Internet’.
But it IS worth the effort.
I think the standard suggestion, and probably the best given your beginning to use Ubuntu, is to attend our install-fest on September 20th. Details are scarce… as our intrepid leader is travelling a lot lately… (I’m sure the details will flow when everyone reads this) but if you can make it to this, you’ll likely go away with your wireless working and then some (I’m sure you have other questions?).
In the meantime … we need to know what is the specific model of your wireless card?
If you don’t know this, you can likely find it in the result (in Ubuntu) of entering ‘lspci’ in a console window (Ubuntu) ß this lists all of the hardware connected to a the ‘pci’ bus on your laptop. You are looking for one line that states ‘Network Controller:’
There should be two of these.. one for the cabled connector and one for the wireless.
Regards,
Andrew.

Ok so i use the live disk of the newist Ubuntu version (8.04.01) on my laptop. I can get into Ubuntu but I cannot access the internet(im using vista right now). I'd like to make the switch but for some reason my wireless card that is in my laptop(Acer Extensa 4620Z laptop) isn't picked up on ubuntu...So ya I don't have a clue on what to do about it. So for a while I had just given up but then I heard of you guys and figured if I can get it figured out I'll use it instead of vista. So ya think you could help me out? if you need more info on my problem give me a shout @ this email
Curtis
