WHAT EXACTLY SHOULD I BE DOWNLOADING AS I WAS ON THE SITE AND SAW AFEW
DIFFERENT DOWNLOADS AND DON'T KNOW ENOUGH TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE.

Actually Ubuntu "Hardy Heron", the current release would be my first
choice.  It comes with a 2.6.24 kernel and has better hardware support
for the devices that are in the eeePC.

Hardy Heron is also an LTS release so it will be supported for a while.
