Try pstoedit ( apt-get install pstoedit )
pstoedit is the underlying tool that Inkscape uses to import eps files (I
think). Without it, I didn't have the option of importing eps files. I
think this applies to the other tools you mentioned too - a sub-package may
be needed to provide their capabilities.
How complex is the image? Could it be recreated in less time than trying to
figure out the conversion? I have done this sort of thing in the past -
Inkscape's node tool is great for this...
Or if you are just after a printed copy of it, you say you can render it in
GIMP - maybe do so and take a screenshot?
