Hello all,
Everyone is well I expect.
I'm just taking a moment to express my flabbergasted astonishment at the
BlackBerry 8130 (Pearl) from TELUS. I didn't expect much as far as Linux
support goes (I mean, it's "just a phone", right?) - but in case anyone was
wondering how everything works: it works great.
The syncing with contacts/calendars, etc - is still a work in progress. But
as far as the media manager goes? Just enable the mass storage mode on the
device, and everything pops up in your file manager. Putting MP3's on your
device, pictures, ringtones, etc - is as simple as dragging and dropping
them into the appropriate folder. Upon entering the "Media" application on
the device afterwards, I expected it to crap the bed. No such thing! For a
few seconds it said "Scanning...", and voila - all my MP3's were all
automatically recognized through their ID3 tags, and my pictures appeared in
the Pictures area too, all in the folder structure I copied them as from the
computer.
All in all, this is basically just a rant - that something actually works -
for once. And props to RIM for implementing mass storage on a cell phone.
