The i915 driver is what is used for both chipsets. Unfortunate naming
convention but there is no 845 driver (at least not for a while).
It looks like you already have the driver installed. What I would do is
make sure that you are completely up to date:
sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
Then reboot. I have honestly not seen these kinds of issues with Intel
GPUs, they have always just worked for me.
