[Clug-tech] OT: iPhone vs Android

The Eve is a good phone, though it does have some issues. If the Nokia
N900 was available in Canada when I was looking to purchase, I would
have had one of those though.

You can look online for any site singing the praises of Android, so I'll
just tell you what I think could be better.

First, the Home and Back buttons are not really buttons. I think they
are conductive ink, so that you just touch the area to trigger the
function. But they are VERY VERY sensitive. To the point where it gets
annoying that you just start something and then move the phone, and the
absolute slightest contact between your skin and the button area
interrupts what you just started. But this is realtively minor as you
get used to it and how to hold/treat the phone.

I have had Android crash on me 4 or 5 times in the month that I have
owned the phone. Recovery is done by removing the battery (full
lockup), then reinserting it and hitting the power switch. Usually this
has happened after the phone has been in my pocket for a bit, but it has
happened in the middle of a call twice. Once where I was speaking to
someone, and once where I had just hit dial and it froze up. I'm hoping
there is an update to Android for the phone sometime soon that addresses
this.

Otherwise, I do like the freedom I have with the phone. Bluetooth works
and does whatever I ask it too. (Whereas my old Samsung had bluetooth
but crippled it to the point of being useless.) Plugging in the USB
connection sees the device as a networking device. You need to tell
Android to behave as a USB Storage device, and then you can transfer
files to/from the phone with ease. It plays music well enough, and any
MP3 can be made to be your ringtone - full length songs instead of the
30 second clips some phones demand.

When I have some spare time I want to create an app for the Android, but
I don't forsee that happening in the near future. Still it looks like
the development environment is pretty straight forward and is
essentially an Eclipse plugin.

I currently have a dislike of the HTC Dream because a certain friend of
mine has one, and he inadvertently pocket dials me on a regular basis...
:) (can't really complain about the phone though - I think it *may* be
a PEBKAC issue... )

My thoughts.
