[Clug-tech] problem with lagging effects in xorg

Hi,

I've done a bit of research into this - I have a laptop with a mobility
HD5870 and when I got it, I thought "wooo, everything should be soo fast",
most things are fast, however with composite enabled the effects cause 
CPU spikes.

This is documented, and there are some fixes out there for it, as it 
effects
many, many, video cards. Does anyone have any experience with this?
every fix that I've tried has caused my xorg to become unresponsive on
  startup such that I have to boot to single user mode to revert the 
changes.
(I can't event ctl-alt out of it.). I think the patch is called the 
"backclear" patch.
